Epiphany
The term epiphany means "to show" or "to make known." On the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6), we remembers the coming of the wise men bringing gifts to visit and worship the Christ child. With that event, which corresponded to Simeon's blessing that this child Jesus would be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles" (Luke 2:32), came one of the first indications that Jesus came for people of all nations and races.
The themes of the Epiphany season are baptism, light, and mission, as we reach out to others by proclaiming Jesus as our Savior. The season lasts from January 6 until the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday (this year, February 22). The scripture readings this season bring messages of Jesus' baptism in the Jorndan and his early ministry and miracles.
