Blessing of the Backpacks

Each August, we gather the entire St. George’s community for a special gathering that informs, protects, and celebrates us all.

What: The beginning-of-year school ceremony led by the Reverend Dr. Matt Boulter, where students of all ages get their backpacks blessed, meet their new teachers, visit their classrooms, and socialize.

Parents can enjoy refreshments, connect with their child’s teacher, and ask questions at our meet-and-greet, led by Head of School Jerri Thompson.

When: Sunday, Aug. 17, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. (Blessing), 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. (Meet Your Teacher and Socialize).

Where: St. George’s Episcopal Church (Blessings), and School facilities and playground (Meet and Greet).

The Blessing of the Backpacks sets the tone for the school year, and it’s a significant part of the St. George's Episcopal School mission to nourish each child’s mind, body, and spirit — and build an inclusive community.
